Anyone who has fertility treatment with donor sperm is offered implications counselling. This counselling encourages patients to think about all the implications of using donor sperm including consideration of what they might want to say to any resulting child(ren) about their parenthood. The purpose of the counselling is to be supportive and to ensure that patients undertaking treatment with donor sperm have considered their feelings about all aspects of raising a child conceived with donor sperm. The counsellor is independent of the clinic and although a specialist in fertility has no influence over treatment.
Patients having treatment at Bourn Hall can access support counselling from independent fertility counsellors who can provide emotional support to anyone going through fertility treatment either before, during or after treatment.
